So… What and how can i get the best usage for my Argan oil? And what are the top tips that Victoria&K recommend?
Lets start with the most common usage for Argan oil, everyone who has heard of Argan oil, will say:‘sure i’ve heard of Argan oil, its the stuff for your hair’
Absolutely! And to prove this there are tons of products for your hair at the moment containing Argan oil. If you look in your local supermarket, you will find at least 5 different products in each top brand that have Argan oil products including, shampoos, conditioners, serums and heat defense sprays. Please note, these are not Pure Argan oil products. They only contain a small percentage of Argan oil, and in the long term will not make a noticeable difference to the condition of your hair.
So…What are Victoria&K top tips for using Pure Argan oil in my hair?
Well you know best what type of hair you have, you may need to cater to what works best for you, but here are some recommendations to get you started.
1 – Pre wash Treatment
This method is best used for those with Dry/itchy/flaky scalp and people with greasy or severely damaged hair. Apply Victoria&K Pure Argan oil straight to the scalp and massage thoroughly, making sure that all the scalp and the roots are covered with oil. Once covered, brush the hair, spreading the oil completely throughout the hair to the tips. If preferred, you can wrap a towel around your hair to secure it but it is not necessary as the oil is completely natural and pure so it wont damage your clothes or be harmful to the skin. You can apply as much of the Pure Argan oil as you want or need to. Leave the oil to penetrate the hair and scalp for a minimum of 20 minutes or for as long as you want. Some leave it in the hair overnight. Wash your hair as normal, all the residue from the oil will wash away easily and will not stick to the hair, instead your hair will be unbelievably soft and the scalp nourished.
2 – Argan oil Conditioner
Suitable for all hair types You do not need to buy expensive Argan oil Shampoos or conditioners, simply add a drop of Pure Argan oil to the shampoo or conditioner that you normally use. First put a 50p size of shampoo or conditioner into the palm of one hand, add one drop of Pure Argan oil to the shampoo or conditioner, simply mix with your other finger. Then all you need to do is wash your hair as normal :)
3 – Heat Defense
Yes! You can apply Pure Argan oil to wet hair and use as a heat defense. This is a top tip if you are worried about using the oil on dry hair, and leaving the hair greasy – it wont, if you use the correct amount, but i know if you have never used an oil before it can be quite daunting and takes a few attempts to get used to. Suitable for all hair types – recommended for thin flyaway hair. Aply 1 or 2 drops of Victoria&K Pure Argan oil into the palm of your hand and rub together with the other hand. Lightly spread both hands through your hair – avoiding the roots but working with the natural length of the hair and tips. If there is any residue left on your hands – dont worry! Money saving tip – massage into another area of your body to moisturise, its all good for you! Dry/straighten/curl your hair as normal, leaving it look great.
4 – Anti – Frizz Serum
This method is best used for curly hair, dry hair, flyaway or frizzy hair After washing and drying, of course we all need something to tame those gorgeous locks. Pure Argan oil is great as a serum because it holds those flyaways down and accentuates those tight curls.
All you need is ONE drop of Pure Argan oil, rub together into your hands first, and using the palms of your hand hold the hair together working from the top to the ends. This is enough Argan oil to use for the whole head of hair. A little goes a long way….. If you are lucky to have natural curls in your hair you can add more Argan oil using one drop for each side. The oil will work with the curls and will give them more definition, locking in the frizz.
5 – Body Hair
Ok girls, cringe over. We all have body hair and what about those bearded men we like to kiss? No more itchy hair growing back and leaving you with a rash???
Yes!!Pure Argan oil is great to use as a post shave balm, treating the area with a quick massage of Pure Argan oil will help you from having that itchy grow back – great for sensative areas, just make sure you apply after every wash. The oil also works wonders for him, it doesn’t leave them with dry skin if they shave, and if they are super trendy to have an awesome beard, then it will keep the beard soft and subtle. You wont be able to keep your hands off him!
Well thats my top tips for using Victoria&K Pure Argan oil for your hair, i hope you find it both informative and useful. Remember to keep posted as i will be adding futute blogs for more top tips on Pure Argan oil for the skin and body.
THE ARGAN tree (argania spinosa) is perfect for a harsh environment, surviving heat, drought and poor soil.
It is little known outside Morocco, and many Moroccans themselves have never heard of it because it grows only in the south-west of the country – roughly between Essaouira and Agadir, in an area covering 700,000-800,000 hectares. But within the area where the argan grows there are about 21 million trees which play a vital role in the food chain and the environment, though their numbers are declining.
The Argan forest had declined so much that it is now protected under UNESCO. The Moroccan government are also providing incentives for the communities of the area to harvest the Argan fruit and so in turn help to provide work and protect the forest.
The tree, which is thorny and can reach heights of 8-10 metres, probably originated in Argana, a village north-east of Agadir (off Route 40). It lives longer than the olive tree and requires no cultivation.
Pure Argan oil is famous for being one of the most rarest and expensive oils in the world. We know this by the fact that the tree is only found in one region in Morocco, but Pure Argan oil is also filled with amazing properties which are beneficial for both external and internal use.
Pure Argan oil has extremely high levels of Vitamin E and 80% fatty acids which make it perfect for healing many skin ailments as well as protecting against premature aging caused by oxidation.
Healing and Protecting
The active substances called triterpenoids that occur in Pure Argan Oil offer amazing skin protection benefits. These include tissue healing (scars), anti-inflammatory, sun-protective and disinfectant properties.
The oil contains 80% unsaturated fatty acids and is more resistant to oxidation than olive oil. Argan oil also contains 0.8% unsaponifiables (a large group of compounds also known as plant sterols or sterolins). Sterolins improve skin metabolism, reduce inflammation and promote excellent moisture retention.
Argan is considered an effective anti-aging oil due to properties such as the high levels of vitamin E /tocopherols (anti-oxidants help neutralise free radical damage, which is important for skin exposed to polluted Western environments) and saponins (skin-softening agents). Besides cooling and soothing inflammation, it is also reputed to help reduce wrinkles by restoring the skin`s hydro-lipid layer.
Argan oil contains rare plant sterols (schottenol and spinasterol), not found in other oils. It is believed that these phytosterols are unique in their combination and that there are no other vegetable oils with a comparable phytosterol composition. In general phytosterols reduce inflammation and help block cholesterol absorption from the intestines. They also show anti-cancer properties.
- Argan oil facilitates digestion by increasing the concentration of pepsin in the gastric juice. It contains flavonoids that act as a natural anti-inflammatory both internally and externally.
- The oil is considered highly beneficial for arthritic or rheumatic conditions.
- It is helpful for lowering cholesterol levels, stimulating circulation and strengthening the body`s natural immunity.
- It is used to soothe skin ailments like chickenpox, acne, psoriasis, and dry eczema. It is also used to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy.
Traditionally Argan oil is also reputed to have aphrodisiac and tonic properties.
Argan oil by Amazigh Berber women
Argan oil by the Amazigh berber women is known as the finest Argan oil in the world. But who are these women? and where do they come from?
The Berbers are a wide group of indigenous tribes and peoples of North Africa, united by a common tongue and identification with their shared heritage. Most now live in Morocco and Algeria, with communities in Tunisia, Libya, Mauritania, Mali and Niger. However the word berber is a controversial one as the translated meaning is ‘from the Forrest’ or ‘wild’
The true name for these people is Amazigh, they are truly an incredible people, being able to withstand the harsh climate of the Sarhara Dessert for centuries, they were able to adapt to their environment where others that tried to conquer the land failed, however approximately 1300 years ago they were finally colonized by the Arabs and Islam was introduced to Morocco. The Amazigh chose to accept the religion, but still hold on to their Amazigh culture.
Around 65% of the population of Morocco is of an Amazigh decent, however Arabic and French is more commonly taught in schools, not the Amazigh native language.
The Amazigh people that still live in the High Atlas Mountains have a traditional way of life, the men of the family take care of livestock and work the land, while the Amazigh women are renowned for their craftsmanship. Many are illiterate, and are living on or below the Moroccan poverty line.
Luxurious handmade Amazigh wool rugs that have lined the walls of souks for centuries, still to this day are made by the women that live in villages in the high Atlas Mountain.
The Amazigh women are also well known for their cultivation for the Argan Kernal. The Argan forest is protected by UNESCO and it sits on a land where anyone is free to collect the kernel as long as they are not damaging the tree. The Argan oil by the Amazigh Berber women is the finest pure Argan oil in the world
A government incentive also started in Morocco to help sustain the Argan forest . The government started to fund co-operatives for the Amazigh women, with equipment and machinery to provide a tax free incentive to the owners of the cooperative.
Argan oil by Amazigh Berber women
The traditional method of pressing the Argan kernel takes 5 hours of hard labour for a single litre of Argan oil.
It has been reported that a full time employed women earns 600 dirhams a month (which converts to approximately £54), while that one litre of Argan oil that she has pressed for 5 hours retails at over £100.
Western tourists are sold the idea that the cooperatives are a benefit to these women, because it gives them a purpose, promotes self esteem, and also helps to sustain the Argan forest. They are now tourist hotspots and can receive up to 100 tourists a day.
My question is, if the cooperative have been given equipment and machinery, and they aren’t required to pay tax, who is profiting from these organisations? And why are they not internationally registered as fair trade? Surly these women deserve to have a higher pay and even better working conditions.
So what is the future of the Amazigh tribe of Morocco?
As the modern world is infringing on Moroccan society, is there a place for the Amazigh culture to remain intact?
I love Morocco, and i love the Amazigh people, I truly hope that the culture does not become exploited Where there is a desperate need for modernisation, Moroccans must find a way of respecting and preserving the culture also.
